CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH ON AT CORONATION STREET THE TOUR
Coronation Street The Tour held its first Christmas light switch-on on Monday 24th November with Heart’s breakfast presenters Joel and Lorna doing the honours.
Competition winners and visitors were invited along to the Manchester visitor attraction to experience Christmas on the Cobbles, they were taken on a tour of inside Studio One where the interior sets have been dressed for Christmas.
The sets have been decorated to reflect the characters who live in the homes, Carla has had a lot of heartbreak over Christmas, so her flat has not received a makeover as she tends to escape for the festive season, whereas the Platt’s home reflects a family Christmas and Kylie’s tastes can be seen to have been of influence.
Visitors were also taken into the Rovers Return where, for the first time ever, they could experience Christmas in the nation’s favourite local and have their picture taken behind the bar which is dressed with festive decorations.
Guests were then taken out onto the Street where Mr Wilson’s Second Liners, a unique, colourful brass band, entertained the crowds as they waited for the big moment. At 6pm Joel and Lorna began the countdown to officially launch Christmas on the Cobbles to the public.
When they pressed the button the Street lit up as thousands of fairy lights twinkled in the windows and on the Christmas trees, snow fell on the visitors and the band played the Coronation Street theme tune as they marched on the cobbles beneath the glow of a waving Santa.
